Winter Water

AdrianneHo_SupremeUndefeated_2Being prepared during the cold winter months means more than just adding layers to your wardrobe; it means increasing the amount of fluids you’re drinking daily. That’s because the air outside becomes much drier when the temperature drops and winds increase. To make matters worse indoor heating sucks moisture out of the air inside. So to avoid dehydration increase your daily amount of water consumption to stay hydrated all year around.

Brussels Sprout and Maple Glazed Tofu Bites

SweatTheStyle_BrusselsSproutTofuBitesThese Brussels Sprout and Maple Glazed Tofu Bites are a no-fuss finger food that are easy to pick up and chow down. Perfect for holiday socializing and catching up. There is no better time to enjoy Brussels sprouts than right now as they’re in season and rich in rejuvenating, healing nutrients. Brussels sprouts are a part of the cruciferous vegetable family (which include broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale) and contain vital cancer-fighting components that offer powerful protection against carcinogens. The compounds found in these vegetables support the body’s natural detoxification process, helping to rid it of cancer-causing agents in our food, water, and environment. Organic tofu adds a protein punch to this snack and will help stave off cravings and keep you feeling energized and satisfied. Enjoy these bites dipped in plain organic full-fat Greek yogurt or nosh on them plain as they pack a festively flavorful punch.

Ingredients:
Brussels Sprouts: 1 lb, rinsed
Extra-Virgin Olive Oil: 2 tbsp
Himalayan Pink Salt & Black Pepper: 1 tsp
Organic Tofu (preferably sprouted): 1 Block
Raw Maple Syrup: 2 tbsp
Low-sodium tamari sauce: 1 tbsp
Coconut oil: 1 tbsp
Garlic Powder: 1 pinch
Himalayan pink salt and black pepper: 1 pinch

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 400.
Slice the Brussels sprouts in half, lengthwise. Don’t trim the ends, as they’ll hold together better with them.
Toss the sprouts on a rimmed baking baking sheet with the oil and a good sprinkle of salt and pepper.
Bake for 40 minutes total but be sure to check them half way through. Toss them around too for even baking.
In the meantime, cut tofu into thick, small strips, place them in a bowl and toss them in maple syrup, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Heat a medium skillet over medium-high and top with coconut oil. Add the tofu and sauté for about 5 minutes, until nicely golden and crispy. Set aside.
Remove the sprouts from the oven and let them cool about 5 minutes, or until you can handle them.
Using toothpicks, slide on a sprout half, followed by a tofu piece, then bookend it with another sprout half.
Arrange on a platter and serve.

Sweat The Style X SoulCycle

SweattheStyle_SoulCycle_3SweatTheStyle_SoulCycle_9SweatTheStyle_SoulCycle_6SoulCycle is a Sweat The Style favorite workout. The combination of spin class, night club, and motivational conference motivates the sweat. Music blasts and lights flash as you go on your ride. The specialized instructors guide you with positive reinforcement and encourage you to leave your negative thoughts at the door and focus on pushing yourself to do the best you can during the 45 minute sweat session.

Start the ride with an easy “flat road” level of resistance. Once you’re warmed up, increase the resistance and peddle to the music. For the next 30 minutes you’ll go through intervals of “standing up” on the bike, doing push ups over the handles, all the while turning up the resistance to keep your legs working hard. The class ends with 10 minutes of hand weights and a cool down. Be prepared to sweat everything out!

Smart Water

AdrianneHo_BlueTechPack_13Every time you sweat you expend water from your body. That’s why it’s so important to rehydrate after a workout and properly hydrate throughout the day. A good way to calculate how much water to drink is the following…

You need a half ounce of fluid per day for every pound of body weight.
Divide that number by 8 to get that number in cups.
For example if you weigh 120lbs, you need to drink 60 oz. of fluid, which is 7.5 cups for the day.

Now that’s called smart water!

Post Workout Rundown

AdrianneHo_BlueTechPack_1What you do after your workout is just as important as what you do during it. That time is crucial to repair muscles and build strength. Anything that gradually slows down heart rate and stretches out muscles like a slow 3-5 minute walk or a set of yoga poses helps. This will prevent dizziness right after an intense workout and reduce soreness the next day.
