The Stairway to Fitness

AdrianneHo_IvyPark-6Sometimes the tools we need to workout are right in front of our face…
AdrianneHo_IvyPark-7 AdrianneHo_IvyPark-8In this case that would be stairs. Most people have access to stairs, which can be used as an excellent source for exercise! Incorporating stair climbing into your exercise routine is not only beneficial for fat-burning but can also give you amazing strength-building results. One of the main benefits of stair climbing is it’s natural ability to increase the muscle mass of your quadriceps and calves. The motion also gives you a slight upper body workout by pumping your arms, but if you add weights, you can increase the upper body benefits.

Studies have shown that a short, high-intensity exercise is just as effective at improving your fitness goals as doing cardio at a long, low-intensity. So whether you have stairs in your home, job, or at your local park, it’s time to grab some dumbbells and hit the nearest steps to challenge yourself to an awesome full body workout!

Stairway To Heaven

AdrianneHo_JoeFresh_b-6 AdrianneHo_JoeFresh_b-8Running stairs is a medium to high-intensity cardio workout that burns calories for energy. Your heart rate increases, your muscles work harder, and you’ll need more oxygen as you ascend and descend. For best results, run stairs in high-intensity, short-duration intervals. This will push your metabolism, meaning you’ll burn more calories, reducing excess weight… Running stairs benefits your cardiovascular health, develops muscle and is free.

Today the Canadian born beauty is based in New York City and lives the ultimate Sweat The Style life downtown. When she’s not shooting around the globe she works hard maintaining her physique by attending various workout classes in the city and eating healthy on the go. Her chic style is one-of-a-kind, mixing high-fashion with activewear effortlessly. She kills it on the way to boxing wearing an Acne coat, Sweat Crew melange sweatshirt & classic tights, Louis Vuitton duffle bag, and Balanciaga boots. Down-to-earth, fun loving, and always super cool Olga is the epitome of what it means to sweat the style. It’s been such a privilege to be her friend for so many years!

Who do you sweat?
People that motivate me to do better; they can be friends that inspire me or even better… haters! 😉
What do you sweat?
Usually whatever I’m stressing about at the time. There’s always something to stress about living in NYC.
Where do you sweat?
At group fitness classes such as Barry’s Bootcamp or for the past year at Mendez Boxing Gym in NYC.
When do you sweat?
Usually in the morning. I feel like working out nice and early sets the tone for how the rest of my day is going to go (being more productive, eating cleaner, etc.) Also, if it doesn’t get done before noon, there’s a big chance I’ll let laziness get the best of me and not go… nobody’s perfect!!
How do you sweat?
Boxing! It’s become such a huge hobby of mine. Also not a bad place to channel some of my internal anger issues 🙂
Why do you sweat?
To feel good and to learn discipline. I’m a strong believer in keeping active to better all other areas of my life. Healthy body, healthy mind.

Siovan Hope-Ross

SweatTheStyle_SiovanHopeRoss_5SweatTheStyle_SiovanHopeRoss_3 SweatTheStyle_SiovanHopeRoss_7SweatTheStyle_SiovanHopeRoss_1Sweat The Style girl model Siovan Hope-Ross is no stranger to having to be comfortable in her own skin. Growing up in the Caribbean she’s spent a lot of time in a bikini and now you can often find her modeling lingerie and swimwear. Today she’s running through NYC wearing Sweat x Sweat The Stye beanie and Tech sports bra, gold Nike Huaraches, and Low Classic Korea skirt. Even when splitting her time between New York, Toronto, and St. Maarten she sets time aside to focus on herself so she can enjoy food and feel good about herself.

Who do you sweat?
I sweat Nike on my feet and Lululemon and Adidas on my tits.
What do you sweat?
A good sports bra with support and style and cool kicks. Air Max and Huaraches are rotating right now.
Where do you sweat?
Gym, outdoors stairs, hills, and studios (pilates, Legree).
When do you sweat?
Late mornings, early afternoon but nothing can happen before my first coffee. I also love sweating under the sun.
How do you sweat?
Love to do body weight exercises i.e jump lunges, jump squats, bosu ball work, and planks. At the studio I work on pilates and high intensity pilates.
Why do you sweat?
I sweat because I ALWAYS feel accomplished and stronger afterwards. I also  like to know that I can wear and fit into pretty much anything. My job as a model requires me to be fit, toned, and have a great figure (toned booty, arms, and abs). Last but not least after I workout I don’t feel guilty about enjoying the second love of my life: food!

When we met up for a sweaty stairs workout Xian showed up looking fly in a worn vintage t-shirt over the Nike aerial print sports bra and shorts paired with some cool light blue sneakers. Xian brings the heat whether she’s working it at the gym or in front of the camera.

Who do you SWEAT?
I sweat myself to keep pushing past comfort zones.
What do you SWEAT?
I sweat butter and kettle chips.
Where do you SWEAT?
I sweat at Equinox with my trainer Jamie and at The Bar Method with my heels lifted.
When do you SWEAT?
I sweat at least three times a week if I’m not sweating in traffic, in castings, or in the airport.
How do you SWEAT?
I sweat breathless in the boxing studio, shaking in bar method, and shameless squatting across the gym.
Why do you SWEAT?
I sweat because I’m blessed to have a job that I love, I sweat because I want to live a long life with a good butt, but mainly I sweat because I love to eat and I’ll never put down the fork.
